The Pink Parlour Festival!

It's so rare for me to actually post, but our most recent show at the Pink Parlour Festival located at the Santa Anita Race Track in Pasadena, CA really got me inspired and I wanted to share.

The Pink Parlour Festival is a wonderful and fun event that celebrates women in crafts.  I want to share the first paragraph from their website, "The Pink Parlour Festival, is a unique one-of-a-kind event that caters to women of all ages. This festival was conceived with the purpose of celebrating the creativity of women. Our objective is to unite women, while bringing together the collections that they create. These include artists such as crafters, visual artists, and performing artists amongst others. Many additional attractions also include musical performances, a fashion show spotlighting young, "Up 'n' Coming" designers, children's activities, along with the excitement of horse racing, concession foods to fine dining and so much more!"

Of course I was there with my craftin' other half, Leanne Poe, as well as our wonderfully and talented friend Jenny Chen of Sesame Bijoux.  This was a new adventure for myself and Leanne and we endured some sleepless nights handcrafting items to sell at the show.  Unfortunately, those sleepless nights didn't include the planning of the look of our booth and we ended up with a very humble and simple set up of tables with black table cloths.   We were so incredibly fortunate in the location of our booth.  We had three sides wide open with a view of the stage and all the fantastic entertainment of the day.  We attended the show as customers once before and fell in love with it.  This time we were a part of it and had just as much fun!  We recommend this show to anyone who can attend.  Everyone that attended said that it was a blast!  Leanne, myself, and Jenny will definitely be there next year and we'll be better prepared :) LOL! Sleepless nights are no bueno and we don't plan to do that again!

Here are some pictures of the items I had for sale...

These are my vintage inspired gift tags.  All tag shapes were cut by hand and not with a die.  The dress form images are from Lost Coast Designs Mannequins rubber stamp set.  I used my Copics W1 and W3 for the inside shading and C1 and C3 the outer shading as well as Vintage Photo Distress Ink to age.  The edge of the tag is also distressed to add age.  The bodice of the mannequins are all paper pieced with the backside of the patterned paper.

Here are my accompanying 4x4 vintage inspired frames...

This little scene is completely paper pieced in several layers.  It is laid out on a flat surface wood frame and treated with Mod Podge.  The wonderful little creatures are my favorite critters from The Greeting Farm: Forest Friends

With these next set of frames I highlighted Gorjuss stamps...one of my absolute favorite artists, Suzanne Woolcott, is the creative hand behind these images.  All images have been colored with Copic Sketch markers :)

The last bit of of my focus was a bit more retro.  I'm so bummed I didn't have time to finish more product with this theme! Both of the frames below were the first to sell. yaye!

And yes, as I said...humble little booth with tables and black table cloths :)

So there you have it! Hope you like :) I'll be sharing some more handmade stuff soon!

Aloha always,

A Birthday Bookcard for Dollie :)

Hello!  I'm trying very hard to actually add posts to my blog on a regular basis...I'M SO PROUD of myself! LOL! because...here's another one! WHOO HOO!

Ok, so, I struggle making single greeting cards but thrive on big projects like weddings and parties.  This is a project I LOVE to do; I call it a bookcard.  I made a little slide show of the bookcard I made for a friend last year to celebrate her 40th birthday.  There was a huge group of beautiful women that gathered for dinner and drinks and we had a blast.  As a group we pitched in and bought her a sweet Louie Vuitton purse and I thought it would be incredible to try to contact everyone on the guest list and have them participate in a group "bookcard".

This means I have to contact many people and request a birthday message and a picture.  It sounds kind of easy, but on average I end up having to contact more than half the people on the list at least three times to finally get the info and sometimes I have to go on FB and just steal that dang pictures!!  Then I have to type up all the messages, choose the appropriate fonts for each individual's page, print the messages and pictures, and then cut them all out.  Let me tell you...this is a HECK of a lot of work and every time I decide to make one...the sleepless nights make me doubt my judgement.   But then I get to witness how the end result brings such a smile to the recipient that makes it all worth while.

The color theme of the bookcard would be purple, as it's Dollie's favorite color, and the shape of the card would be a purse to fit in with our group gift.  I hope the slide show is tolerable.  I never know how large or fast I should make it go :)

Aloha!

So...here is my contribution to this wonderful celebration.  My apologies to Luka...but one project was really plenty of work for me :)

The letters are from Joann's.  The paper is from DCWV's Whimsy Stack.

Of course, I have to include my favorite lil' Panda
Here is Darling Marci...sittin' pretty ;)

Yes, I love critters...so here is cute little Tuffy!

Mermaid Marci floatin' in da C...

And last but not least, Birthday Marci...

I'm going to do my best and remember what Copic Markers I used for each letter.  Typical new blogger blunder...I just colored and colored and didn't make a list of what I used! AHH! LOL! When I remember, I promise to edit this post and include the info.

(OK! Here are the Copics I used...Hair: Blonde - Y02, Y11, YR21, YR24.  Brown - E31, E33, E35.  Panda - C1, C3, C5.  Skin - E00 & E02, E51 & E53.  Cheeks - R11.  Pink Dress - R81, R83, R85.  Blue Green Dress - BG0000, BG01, G00, G02, G07) I think that was it :)

Much aloha everyone! Next La-La Land family member to HOP to is Shantaie.  And when you are all done hoppin' around, don't forget to go follow those steps mentioned above to get yer candy on!

Mahalo!

Safari Madness!

Hi all! I'm finally posting something! LOL! My crafting buddy Leanne and I have been delving into custom invitations under the team name "Yumi & Fumi" (our Japanese middle names).  This is our first full fledged team effort and it was created for an 8th grade class graduation party.  We really had a good time doing this and we were very happy with the results.  The giraffe, lion, and elephant are from Stamps by Judith and the sweet lil' hangin' monkey is from the Recollections Clear Stamp Set, Zoo-licious from Michael's.  The base paper is Neenah Desert Storm and the inks are Memento and Tim Holtz's Distress Ink and Copic Markers.  The leaf punches are from Punch Bunch and I'm a HUGE fan of my trusty ol' Tonic scissors. OH! OH! And some of my favorite stamps in the whole wide world are created by Suzanne Woolcott.  We used two of her rubber stamps for our little "Yumi & Fumi" signature because it just looked like the two of us!

We did so many different things on this invite...I don't know that I remember all of it! LOL! Well, I just wanted to share our project with you.  I took pictures throughout the process so you could see the work we put in.

I tried to use "slide" to show you the pix, but I was bummed when I couldn't figure out how to add music.  So, I also tried iMovie but the photo quality is low.  Both are included below.  My suggestion is hit the play on the movie and watch the SLIDE show below...it has a MUCH better quality view.    Hope you like...xoxo

Everything grows better with love...

Nothing could be more true, right!? Everything DOES grow better with love.

It's been so exciting getting to see each of the new La-La Land Crafts   Summer 2011 Collection creations! With each new introduction, my smile got bigger! I thought for my first day out with the summer crew that I would work with Marci with Flower.  Here she is!

I used my trusty Copic markers to color Marci in:
Hair: E40, E42
Skin: E51, E53 (cheeks R20 )
Shirt: R81, R83, R85
Denim Capris: B93, B95, B97
Flower pot: E04, E07, E09
Outer Shading: C1, C3
I also used Copic Atyou Spica glitter pens on he hair ties, flower, and garden tool.

The paper used for the scalloped oval and first light blue layer is from DCWV Garden Party.  The white card stock is my go-to Neenah white.  The very slightly visible second rectangle layer is from the DCWV Citrus stack and the actual card is also Neenah.  Both ovals are from Spellbinders and I'm sorry, I can't say where I got all the flowers because I have a wonderful HUGE bin of assorted flowers that I get to dig into.

So, there you have it! I hope she makes you smile...because really...that is truly the purpose for me to make anything and everything...smiles.

Aloha always,
Renate'
